Upskill your Pacific workers and enable them to adapt to the changing nature of work.

Nearly 60 per cent of Auckland’s 99,300-strong Pacific workforce are in jobs more likely to be affected by automation and other technological change – as well as the economic impacts of COVID-19.

This is a government-funded initiative connecting Auckland employers with education providers to provide short, in-work training courses for Pacific people.

Tātaki Auckland is offering fully-funded courses to Auckland employers in the following sectors who are looking to upskill their Pacific people:

  • Retail and hospitality

  • Tourism

  • Manufacturing and processing

  • Healthcare

FAQs

Increased productivity, a more skilled and future-ready workforce, and a positive impact on your people’s resilience, capability, confidence, and wellbeing, leading to improved staff retention and engagement.

Each course has a specific set of outcomes and you can choose those courses that will make the biggest difference for your team. Our eight courses cover an introduction to leadership, leadership confidence, financial literacy, digital literacy, wellbeing, effective communication, sustainability, and retirement and preparation for the future.

On completion of a course, your people will gain external accreditation.

All our courses are free and fully funded. The only investment needed is the time your participating employees will be away from their core roles while they do the course.

Each course is generally designed for approximately 16 hours, but there is flexibility over how and when a course is run. The education provider assigned to your organisation will work with you to discuss what is best for your business.

Our courses are open to all Auckland businesses employing Pacific workers in the following industries: manufacturing (including food and beverage), construction and infrastructure, healthcare, transport and logistics, and tourism (including hospitality, accommodation, and retail).

We work with employers and industries  who employ Pacific workers and welcome all interests - you can still apply if you only have a small number of Pacific workers.

While most participating employees are Pacific people, we have the flexibility to include other employees in this training. This will be assessed on a case-by-case basis, so get in touch with our team to discuss your situation.

These courses are short (approximately 16 hours for each qualification) and result in externally accredited qualifications (micro-credentials). They can work as a stepping stone to further training or study, or to progress to a higher level job.

Our eight courses cover an introduction to leadership and leadership confidence, financial literacy, digital literacy, wellbeing, effective communication, sustainability, plus retirement and preparation for the future.

You will receive a phone call from Tātaki Auckland Unlimited or your course provider, so we can ask some questions about your workers, their learning needs and your business to confirm your eligibility.

If you are eligible, we match you up with an education provider. From there, you will work directly with them to outline your training programme and mutually suitable timeframes.

The training will be delivered by experienced training providers, accredited to deliver this programme through Tātaki Auckland Unlimited.

We have several course delivery partners. If you have an existing relationship with a participating course provider, let us know, and we can work with you to request their support.

No, your employees can do as many courses as you/they wish and there is no limit to the number of workers you can sign up for this training programme.

Yes. This is a four-year programme and will be completed in 2025. However, we encourage you to register your interest early so you can be added to the queue and enter the programme when your organisation is ready. When you are registered, we will work with you to ensure you can commence when the timing is right for you.

Tātaki Auckland Unlimited is Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland’s economic and cultural agency that works to enrich the economic and cultural life of the region and its people, creating opportunities and experiences for all. Pacific people play an important role in Auckland’s social and economic prosperity. They are over-represented in lower-skilled roles in critical industries, median incomes for Pacific people are lower than for the general population. Lifting their prosperity opportunities means an economic success for Auckland, and Tātaki Auckland Unlimited is working to support Pacific people through a number of programmes, including Project Ikuna.
