Auckland Diwali Festival – one of Auckland’s biggest and most colourful cultural festivals – takes place in Aotea Square and Queen St (between Wellesley St and Mayoral Drive) this Saturday Sunday 14-15 October, from noon until 9pm.
Tens of thousands of people are likely to attend this celebration of traditional and contemporary Indian culture, which includes dance, music and theatre performances, food and craft stalls, and art workshops.
The festival is visually varied and colourful, and offers great opportunities for capturing still and moving images.
Media are welcome to attend to cover the festival.

On the day, we will provide you with a media identification lanyard and facilitate your coverage of the festival.
Highlights:
Saturday 14 October:
- 12.30pm - Radio Tarana Bollywood Dance Competition (Junior & Intermediate groups)
- 2.15pm and 7.30pm - International guests, the Kalika Kala Kendra dancers, direct from Ahmednagar in Maharashtra State, India, performing centuries-old lavani dancing, wearing intricate saris, jewellery and ankle bells, on the main stage
- 5.45pm – Miss India NZ Fashion Show
Sunday 15 October:
- 4pm – Radio Tarana Bollywood Dance Competition (adults groups)
- 4.55pm and 7.30pm – international guests, the Kalika Kala Kendra dancers, direct from Ahmednagar in Maharashtra State, India, performing centuries-old lavani dancing, wearing intricate saris, jewellery and ankle bells, on the main stage
- 9pm – Barfoot & Thompson fireworks finale closes the festival
